The International Mother Language monument is a heritage for all communities, no matter what languages they speak. The monument symbolises respect and tolerance for all cultures, especially the validity and equality of all mother languages of the world. In a world of globalisation, the monument can act as a beacon providing the message of the need to protect and promote linguistic diversity and multilingual education. The International Language Monument is intended to symbolise the importance of the “International Mother Language Day” for people and cultures around the world and acts as a focal point for the celebration of the International Mother Language Day that is held on the 21st February as designated by UNESCO.
